Hello! About SDU
The idea of SDU is to bring dressage and related disciplines together in a non-judgemental community. Grand Prix Dressage Rider Steph Croxford came up with the idea whilst walking her dogs during Lockdown in March 2021. "I remember seeing a post on the British Dressage Facebook page where an amateur member was asking for recommendations of other amateur social media pages to follow. I wondered if we could all come together in one facebook page to swap funny, uplifting, silly stories and posts. That was when shitedressageunited was born. I wanted the group to be comprised of members that believed they belonged in a really bad but cool gang." Steph says.
SDU's Story Continues...
Steph also had the idea for the lapel badges. They mean that members can be instantly recognisable to each other whenever and wherever they are competing. Within a few days the members on the group page decided that the lapel pin would be either a rainbow poop emoji or a unicorn. Then the quest was set to find the relevant badges. "I think Ebay didn't know what hit them. I had one badge maker privately messaged me asking was it me that was responsible for the huge surge in rainbow poop emoji badges that were flying out of his shop?"
Steph relates "I have always been lead by the SDU members and it was them that decided that we needed a few live shows. Therefore, I asked around and managed to get five UK based SDU shows set up for late Summer/ Autumn 2021. These seemed to be well supported and was all inclusive as everyone that competed at the shows got a badge and all the horses/ponies got a carrot on completing their tests. We also had great prizes provided by a great few sponsors that came on-board and even a trophy for the 'Naughtiest Unicorn' at each show! It was so lovely to see so many people chatting and smiling without feeling pressured in any way."
The next idea that the members came up with was on Online International competition. This meant that anyone, anywhere in the world could come join in on the fun. It was at this point that E-Riders joined SDU to help set up the online competition, as Steph didn't have a clue where to start. Using the same principals as the live shows, the online International was launched at the beginning of November 2021. There will be a badge for each competitor and a mint/treat for each horse/pony, as well as a rosette for the Naughtiest Unicorn. For more information and to enter, please visit the E-Riders Website.
As well as the live and online shows, the members thought that a 'Shite over Night' SDU camp would be fun to attend, where people could meet and chat as well as feel no pressure to learn new things with their equine partners. These camps are currently being formulated and the dates and locations will be announced shortly.
"It was a chance meeting with the lovely Christy Christoffersen at the Beechwood SDU live show, that enabled the website idea to take off. As I'm not 'techno wise' in any shape or form, Christy kindly offered to help me set up an SDU website that would allow the SDU membership to look through and find out about the groups activities. The SDU website, like the SDU group, is in it's infancy, so I'm hoping it will develop alongside the group, as it evolves."
